First Christmas Tree has Lights and Decorations

Since I have mentioned Christmas decorating more than once I thought I should post a pic of the first tree that is ready this year.

If you think the tree looks misshapen it is because it is a spiral topiary shape. I bought this tree probably 20 years ago and still love the shape of it. The fact that it is tall and narrow makes if perfect to put in a smaller space.

Our little white fuzzy angel, the one sleeping in the chair next to the tree, has tried to remove the ribbon garland a few times today. He gets the ribbon in his mouth and takes off running at least once a day, sometimes more. Typically I can catch him before he gets too far, but he is fast so sometimes he will get a full piece of ribbon off the tree, and take some ornaments down in the process.

Even though our felines are 8 years old they still think they are kittens and conduct them selves accordingly. We are always telling them no, or not to do something, and they continue to do as they please. I am amazed that they seem to have as much energy as ever. Remaining active throughout life is part of the breed characteristic. The felines are Turkish Angoras if anyone is interested.

Earlier today, while I still had my lovely headache, the little white baby grabbed a jewelry box that my hubby had placed under the tree in his mouth and took off running. I chased him as he ran to the bathroom to place the jewelry box in the bathtub. By the time I caught him he was holding the box with his front paws and trying to kick the bottom open with is back paws. He is certainly an enterprising little feline. Since I was afraid he would actually get the box open and eat the jewelry, the box is now safely in a drawer.

Does anyone else have animals that misbehave to this extent or have my little furry angels cornered the market on bad? Good thing they are cute and loving, because they certainly are not well behaved.

I will be back tomorrow with at least one new recipe, if not two. We are going out to dinner with our friend Phil who is in town from Springfield, Missouri so I won't be cooking.

I hope you all have a great evening.

  2. Michelle,

I love the shape of this crazy tree. All the ornaments are unbreakable, or at least that been my experience so far. However, something tells me if they can be broken my little felines will be the ones to figure out how to do it.

We are the opposite on trees. I grew up with real trees and now have fake. The lack of pine needles is a big bonus for me.

Good luck with your tree, I know it will be fine.

  3. That is a very cool tree, I love it! Your cats are funny. One of my dogs likes to bark at the mail carrier and has broken a few of my ornaments since our tree is in front of the window. It's a good thing he's so cute, because he's a lot of trouble sometimes!

  4. Janet,

Our cats are funny and quite bad most of the time.

When I was growing up we had a dog that always barked at the mail person. I wonder why dogs dont' seem to like the mail person.

It is qutie amazing what we put up with from our companion animals. My hubby and I often comment that our house belongs to the cats and they let us live here. That describes things fairly well.

    talk to you soon,

  5. Beautiful tree. It looks warm and cozy there. The mirror reflection is an interesting touch.

  6. Shenandoah,

I do a few trees each year, but this is my favorite. It is the one I call our "family tree", since it is the family room.

  7. Very cool tree you've got, and wow, what a gorgeous breed of cats! i love white kitties, but I was not familiar with Turkish Angoras. Your kitties really sound like a hoot! Mine can be bad, but it sounds like yours are a bit more mischievous.

I'm super paranoid with the tree, all of the hooks are the plastic coated kind, and the few that I put on the lower branches I twisted the hook around the branch to make it harder to knock the ornament off. I worry about my orange guy, he ate two toys the second day I owned him, and had some pretty big vet bills to get that all straightened out! he's prone to eating the inedible, so this being his first exposure to a Christmas tree I think my fears are valid. be careful if your kitties are prone to the same behavior, my vet explained that Christmas is the most common time of year for kitties to need stomach surgery to remove things like ornament pieces, hooks, and ribbons. :( poor babies!

  8. Sarah,

The cats say thank you for the compliment on their looks. Vain little things they are!

I am also paranoid about Christmas ornaments and all Christmas things really. I have all my ornaments on the tree using plastic coated florist wire to secure them. They really don't come off. Also, all the ornamanets are unbreakable.

Wow, I can't believe your little guy ate two toys in the first week you had him. I haven't had that problem with my babies yet. Although last year mine decided they wanted to eat the gingerbread house. Let's just say sugar doesn't agree with their GI system, so no gingerbread house this year. In the 30 years I have lived with cats I never had that problem before.

Thanks for looking out for my fur babies, I really appreciate it! :)

    Alicia
