Antioxidant Rich Juice and Tea May Prevent Arterial Hardening

(pictured: Green Tea with Ginger and Lemon and a little Pomegranate Juice for flavor)

According to a study published in the journal Food and Chemistry what you drink can have a big impact on the fatty deposits in your arteries. A few juices were studied (raspberry, strawberry and bilberry) as well as both black and green tea. No surprise green tea and raspberry had the biggest impact.

Consuming raspberry juice and green tea have been shown to reduce fat deposits in the aorta by up to 96% in as little as 12 weeks. While these numbers seem unbelievable to me, if the expected reduction is only 5% in 12 weeks I think it would still be worth adding to your diet.

As far as I am concerned this is yet another reason to keep drinking green tea with a little fruit juice for flavor. We have been using pomegranate juice but now I will be on the look out for raspberry juice to add to the rotation. I can’t help but wonder why pomegranate juice wasn’t tested and how it would have fared in the study had it been studied. I assume someone will study this eventually.

  1. Hi Alicia...

Thanks, as always, for the research. It just goes to show that nature has what our bodies really need. And, our bodies have really powerful mechanisms for healing and staying healthy as long as we give them enough of what they need...and limit what they don't need, namely toxins.

  2. Hi Rose,

I spend too much time researching nutrition and health, and thought others may be interesting in the tidbits I turn up.

It is amazing to me (as someone who spent decades working in healthcare) that our bodies are capable of healing themselves if we stop poisoning them and instead give them the nutrition they need. Too bad most of America isn't on board with this concept.

  3. Oh, I miss green tea. I'm staying away from all caffeine for now, don't want to give the baby the jitters. I should just buy decaf, lol.

That is strange they didn't test pomegranite juice, it's supposed to be great for you. They should have also included blueberries. Anyway, I'm sure just having a variety of fruit or their juices is wonderful for your body.

  4. Janelle,

Did you know you can decaffeinate regular tea yourself at home? I can't remember where I read about this but you put the tea bag in hot water for 30 seconds and then throw that away and brew like normal. Supposedly 95% of the caffeine comes out in the first 30 second brew. After I read this I wondered if 95% of the antioxidants come out that quickly too but haven't read anything about that.
