Asian Walnut Dressing

I was chatting with Laloofah and she mentioned walnut dressing and was kind enough to send me the recipe. After she mentioned it for the second time I knew I had to give it a try since we loved the okara miso pate she also recommended. Being me I didn’t follow the recipe but used it as a starting point. Combining an equal amount of walnuts and water in the blender produces a loves thick dressing. It reminded me very much the dressing that goes on peanut noodles so I went with that inspiration. If you haven’t tried making dressing with nuts you should. I had made dressing with raw cashews, macadamias and now walnuts. They have all been fabulous. Here is the Asian Walnut Dressing I am having on my salad today for lunch.

Asian Walnut Dressing
Makes 27 tablespoons

Ingredients:

1 cup walnuts
1 cup water
1 or 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and smashed
1 tablespoon liquid aminos
1 teaspoon onion flakes
½ teaspoon coriander seed (grind first if not using a high speed blender)
1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
½ inch fresh ginger, thinly sliced will help it break down in the blender without strings

Directions:

Place everything in your blender and puree until completely smooth. The dressing will get thick and creamy.

Comments:

I know this is going to be making regular appearances at my house. I can imagine this not only salads but on other raw or lightly steamed veggies where you want an Asian flair.

Unrelated Note:

This morning the sun is shining and the sky is mostly blue. I am going to out to see if my normal 1 mile route through the neighborhood is clear of snow and ice. It will be nice to take my exercise back outside after so long.

Tonight for dinner I am thinking summer rolls using some of this dressing for a dipping sauce. Now that I put that into print we will see if that nudges me to stay with the plan. ;)

I hope you are all having a fabulous day.

Lalo, keep those recipe ideas coming.  You are batting 1000 at our house!

I think you and John will both like this dressing. It is quite tasty. I used to dip celery into earlier. It is made a great snack.

  4. Heather,

This is a great dressing. You should give it a try since I know you like nuts. It tastes much richer than the calorie count would lead you to expect.

  6. Michelle,

This is pretty easy to make by using a blender. Since you have a recipe you want to recreate find the ingredient list on-line and add or substract items from this recipe. That is how I make things sometimes. Just be sure to write down the amounts so you can recreate it later. That was never my strong suit before the blog. ;)

  7. Sunshine! Yay! I hope it stays warmer and brighter for you. And, yes, the dressing does sound very good. I'm looking forward to summer break when I can play around with all the recipes I've been seeing. :)

  8. Blessed Mama,

The sunshine was very missed. If it were a little warmer I would have opened the windows today.

I bet you are looking forwad to Summer! Something tells me you need a break as much as the kids do.

    talk to you later,

  9. Oooh, another pretty plate! (I love the color, too!)

I'm so glad you enjoyed the walnut dressing and okara miso paté recipes, Ali! If you like the Breast of Tofu too, I'll have a hat trick! (But of course, I was only the messenger. To Ann Esselstyn and Bryanna Clark Grogan goes all the glory... I only take credit for my paté peanut butter blunder. LOL) And glory goes to you too, since you have yet to make any of these recipes as written, you wicked little anarchist, you!) ;-)~

I've never had Asian walnut dressing, so I'll have to try your version next time! We always enjoy the original version on steamed kale and on potatoes, and I don't see why they couldn't benefit from a little Asian flair!

I'll keep sending you recipes and see what they morph into there in Area 51! LOL

Rose - we had your lovely massaged greens salads for lunch Saturday (more on that at a later date, when I have a chance to blog about it!) So thanks to you for your recipe, too! :-)

  10. Lalo,

This is another plate from a holiday gift basket. Sorry I don't know where you can buy them.

I think you are the first person to call me an anarchist. For some reason I can't wait to share that with the hubby! LOL.

Excellent. Area 51 is open and ready for more experiments.

Thanks for reminding me of Rose's salad. I do need to make that soon. As soon as I have a bit more room in the frig.
