Time Got Away from Me

Dan and I were busy today which meant that I didn't find time to finish my post.  Instead of rushing through it to get something up I would rather take my time tomorrow and write something that will be better.  If you have any suggestions please let me know what you want to read about.

Our plan for tomorrow morning is to start our morning at the gym at 6am.  Wish us luck since we were still awake after midnight last night.  We are trying to get back to our early morning schedule.

I hope you had a great weekend. Talk to you tomorrow after I have time to properly write the next post.

  1. My days got away from me this weekend too. But in a good way that I can't complain about.

  2. Understandable, especially since the weather is again getting nice.

Someone at yoga class this morning mentioned that it's better to soak nuts before eating them, also grains and beans before cooking, in order to maximize nutrient absorption. They said to use either milk or lemon juice. Do you have any comments on that?

  3. Heather,

The last month has been a blur for me. I am really hoping to have little time to kick back and relax soon. I am happy to hear your weekend was busy but in a good way.

    hugs,

  4. Laura,

I have too many obligations at the moment but that is completely my fault. If I get a few minutes this week I will try to send you an email. *sigh*

Regarding the soaking issue I have read that and tried to find some hard science to back it up and there is none other than brown rice. Just to be certain I wasn't missing something I asked my vegan RD friend who works for a university and she could not find anything either searching the scientific journals. At the moment I am chaulking it up to urban myth. If I find any hard science on this and change my mind I will post it.

I hope all is well with you,
    Ali

  6. Debra,

I often wonder how I ever got everything done when I worked outside the home since I can't get it all done now. ;-)

  7. Thanks for checking into that for me. But what do you mean "other than brown rice"? I don't recall you saying that you soak brown rice.

  8. Laura,

In people that are macrobiotic and eat 60% of their calories from brown rice there have been issues with mineral absorption (calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc). Soaking brown rice before cooking reduces the phytic acid that interferes with the mineral absorption, however so does cooking. We eat so little brown rice I don't worry about soaking it. Does it make sense?
