Whole Grains are High in Antioxidants

(Pictured: Oatmeal with Peanut Butter and Banana)

Recent research indicates that whole grains are much higher in antioxidants than previously thought. Prior research had thought the fiber in whole grains was what caused the inverse relationship between cancer and the consumption of whole grains. With this new finding of the high levels of antioxidants the fiber theory may not be totally valid.

In the cereal category oats had the highest amount of antioxidants. Popcorn topped the list in the snack category.

At our house this means I will continue to add whole oat flour to our smoothies. Also, I think our air popper will be getting a little use in the future.
